Dirt Lovers

I've found a new book to love.

It's all about dirt.

And I'm not typically a dirt lover! No love affair there.

But when you think about dirt in a new way -- as the foundation of all life -- I can learn to love it. I do love trees, flowers, plants, gardening...impossible without dirt.

And I want to teach my sons to love nature.

So I am reading "I Love Dirt" by Jennifer Ward and doing the activities with my kids!

Here's an excerpt:
"How many different colors can you find in flowers? Which color flower is the most common? Do all flowers have the same number of petals? Search for flowers..."

Then we talk about how different colors attract pollinators or camouflage to protect against predators, or even shout out a warning like "watch out! I'm poisonous!"

And that's just one of the 52 ideas for activities. It'll be a whole year of fun for us!

A bit off topic -- but, do you know who DOES LOVE DIRT??? My husband. He tore out an article from this month's Gleaner and stuck it on the fridge. It's entitled "Blessed Are The Untidy".
