Why Do I Do It?
In honor of my 1,000th post (*applause*) and just because I've been feeling the need to justify myself lately, I'm going to make a list.
I love lists. =)
WHY I BLOG:
1} I will go crazy without some form of creative release. It feels so good to punch letters onto the screen, reread what I wrote, smile, and click "Publish Post". I feel like I contributed. Like my brain is full of matter that matters. *grin*
2} I will go crazy without some form of connection to the world outside my home. I do get out. Sometimes. But being a "stay-at-home" mom is just that way. You stay at home. And it can be a thankless, all-consuming job with minimal feedback. Blogging is an outlet, a way to connect with other moms inside the "nest". And every comment is precious. They all help me feel connected. And appreciated.
3} I feel driven to inspire and encourage. If what I say resonates with you...if what I post helps you make a positive change...if what I write helps you love your family more, I have succeeded! And when I'm focused on inspiring and encouraging, it helps me write with a positive angle. Nothing like finding the moral behind a huge kid-induced mess. Nothing like not being the only one.
4} I like to be funny. It cheers me up a lot when I read what I write and laugh. So, my blog is a way to express my sense of humor.
5} I need to document my life. So many things happen in just a few days when you are 6 months old. With mommy brain, do you really think I'm going to remember all the cute and horrible moments? It's really nice to be able to click on "Things I Love..." and get those monthly reports. Or click on "Boy Smiles" and remember how adorable he was without teeth.
6} My blog helps me share my life with precious family members who we don't see very often. How else could Great-Grandparents get a daily update, complete with pictures? It makes keeping in touch that much easier.
7} Blogging makes me think. It makes me intentional. I look for reasons behind my behavior. When my son has a new experience, I analyze it more...in preparation for a blog post. I think of activities to do that will make good pictures. Sometimes I do things only because I want to blog about them. *gasp*
And I have to steal Erin's Reason #8: Blogging hands down beats doing laundry, vacuuming, cooking, or dishes. Plus research shows that writing about personal experiences improves memory and sleep and boosts immune cell activity. (Whatever that means...it's straight from Wikipedia and I plan to recite it every time Kenny catches me blogging instead of doing the above daily chores!)
9} It helps me solve problems! Yes. Sometimes I figure out the solution just by writing about it. {And sometimes that post doesn't make it past the editing stage...} Sometimes commenting friends are a BIG HELP. Thank you friends.
10} Why does it seem incomplete without a tenth reason? Maybe I'll just end with nine. HAH. Blogging let's me do whatever I want, because it's MY BLOG. =p
