Childhood Seven

After reading two stories and singing a couple songs, my eldest wasn't feeling quite tired enough to succumb to sleep. He was "still hyper". His kicking feet connected with my nose and I retreated in pain, holding my hands over my face, doing what I could to avoid inflicting pain upon my child in return! It was a few minutes later that Peter put his hand on my shoulder and with a sad voice said "next time I will not do it again" "I will not do it again, mommy".

Pretend play has exploded in the last few months. Today, Peter's best friend was "sheepie". He carried his sheep around lovingly, bringing "her" out to the garden to have some cilantro and some green onions, putting her (now named "Lauren") to sleep on the piano bench. "Lauren is awake now! She wants to eat again!"

In his newest book, there is a picture of a gumball machine. Something I don't believe he's encountered before. But what does he do?? Says, "I'm going to get a gumball", turns the crank to get one, pops it in his mouth and pretends to blow a big bubble!! I didn't even think he knew what gum was. Who taught him this???? ;)

Our friend Tayton has a very cool set of drums, the toy version of course. Peter LOVES banging on the two hand-height drums, the foot-pedal drum and crashing the cymbal. Fortunately, Tayton also has a keyboard and a toy guitar, so there is something for everyone to play. At one point, Peter said "I'm playing the drums, the guitar and the keyboard {in other words, they are all mine!!}". Then he got the idea that we would have more fun making music all together and started giving orders. "Tayton will play the keyboard and I will play the guitar and Ezra will play the drums."

We put in a bunch more tomato seedlings yesterday. In the process of digging, I found a pretty thick, long, juicy worm. I asked Peter if he liked worms. "Yes, I like worms." Then I declared my distaste for worms and he changed his vote. "I don't like worms." Oh dear. "Peter, it's OK for you to like them, even if mommy doesn't like them!" "NO, I don't like worms."

Peter's friend, Daniel, has a baby sister, a very cute little girl who smiles a lot. Yesterday, after carrying around his sheepie named "Lauren" for most of the day, Peter says, "I want a baby sister." Sure son, we'll tell the stork to order us one. ;)

Whenever Peter cooks in his pretend kitchen, he adds in an ingredient called "hot fry". It seems to come out of the box of "coffee". Where did he get this name and what exactly is hot fry?? We aren't sure. But he likes to put it in soup...
