Learning about Flax
Saw some flax flowers blooming out back and thought today would be a good day to teach Peter a bit about plant identification and usefulness.
First we looked up pictures of flax online. Then we headed out with the tricycle on a "flax hunt". Do the flowers smell? Where are the seeds?
We talked briefly about flax being harvested, "retted", and finally spun into linen thread. It's really quite amazing!
