Summer of Monkeys

This book was the perfect contrast to my shelf full of parenting and "self-help" books.

It fits the season [hot and muggy]. It's about adventure [what a mother needs]. It's about a boy [something I'll never get to be]. It has a happy ending [a must have]. It teaches a good lesson [bonus!].

Didn't take long to get to the plot. We were in the thick of monkey hunting by the third chapter! And what ingenious ways to capture monkeys. Too bad they didn't work. Oh, I felt for the poor boy. By the middle of the book I was feeling about as bedraggled and discouraged as the main character. Without the wounds to heal and the hangover.

I really didn't see the resolution coming and was as surprised as Jay Berry to find the monkeys ____________ {read the book}. ;) LOVED the family values, the lessons of empathy and self-sacrificing love, the determination, the creativity.

A perfect book for a summer read. At almost any age.
