[faith] stand in awe
I've been reading Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller. It's raw and stream of consciousness and hits home to me. I looked around the sanctuary yesterday and watched people sing. Has the glory and power of God become boring to us? When did we lose our sense of wonder? Are we worried what other people will think of us if we sing strong, with tears running down our cheeks? If we truly worship our worthy God?
Two quotes from Donald's book:
"A writer I like named Ravi Zacharias says that the heart desires wonder and magic. He says technology is what man uses to supplant the desire for wonder. He says that what the heart is really longing to do is worship, to stand in awe of a God we don't understand us and can't explain."
"Too much of our time is spent trying to chart God on a grid, and too little is spent allowing our hearts to feel awe. Be reducing Christian spirituality to formula, we deprive our hearts of wonder."Captivate us, Lord. Remind us to go out and look for You in a sunset or a mountain stream. Fill us with awe and wonder. Teach us to worship.
