Christmas in a Cabin | Ponderosa State Park in McCall, ID

We decided to skip town and spend Christmas in a little cabin in the woods. This cabin was glorious and bringing friends with us made it all the more fun. We give Ponderosa State Park Deluxe Cabins 5 stars, especially the Elk cabin which was spacious and well-equipped with everything we needed.

Our cabin was just a short distance away from the groomed cross country ski trails of Ponderosa State Park. We took a mini trek mid-day and later that evening did the full 7 mile {round trip} tour of the peninsula {after dark}. It was a blast. The trail takes a final loop called "Thread the Needle" which elicited some screams and adrenaline on the way down.

Instead of paying for WIFI, we decided to play all manner of games and enjoy the snowy wonderland outside. We ate well, played hard, slept just enough {!} and built silly-looking snowmen. And then found the sledding hill down by the lake and pumped up our inner tube for a slide.

Trip Details:
Ponderosa State Park, just outside McCall, ID, was the perfect destination for us. Close to the lake and cross country ski trails, with warm and cozy accommodations. We stayed in the Elk Cabin, which has one bedroom and a loft and sleeps eight if four don't mind sleeping on hide-a-beds. The kitchen was lovely and served us well with its gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, and large fridge/freezer. The beds were comfortable, linens were provided, and there was even a cute little gas fireplace in the corner.

We will definitely make a return trip here. Maybe in the summer with our kayaks!
