And Then She Stayed Home | October 2025

Over the past two years or so, I've found a way to get up in an airplane and out on an adventure at least every month. But then I spent 24 nights away from home and unsurprisingly, felt like that was enough for awhile.

I canceled my plans to ride the Ohio to Erie trail with Bruce, and switched to all-in house painting mode. I painted walls and trim and ceilings for more than two weeks, then moved on to kitchen cabinets. The only excursion I took was a VERY QUICK zip up to Colchuck Lake and back (four hours) with my friend Cheryl!

I put in more hours at the airport in October than any other month before. I fell completely out of my mile-a-day running habit. With the smoky air, I barely got any exercise and my lungs were either full of smoke or paint fumes. Not good. Life right now feels out of balance and empty. Hopefully I can catch up on sleep and find my sense of adventure again.

The kitchen won't be finished until we replace the countertops, put up a backsplash, and a new under-mounted sink. But that will take a bit more expertise and money, so I'm not sure when it will happen.

I didn't paint the mud room, the laundry room, the bathroom, or the master bedroom/bathroom. I just found a reasonable stopping spot and I don't want to see a roller brush ever again.

September and October were complete opposites!! What will November be???
