Deluxe Cabins at Ponderosa State Park | McCall, Idaho
When I saw that as part of our season passes at Mission Ridge, we got three free lift tickets at Brundage Mountain, I knew we had to hit up Ponderosa State Park again. We were here FIVE years ago for a Christmas cross-country skiing adventure, and I knew it was worth a return trip. This time, we invited friends to come alpine skiing with us and stay in a cabin next door. Another fantastic experience.
I was nervous about the weather in early March [barely shoulder season], but McCall had just received a good dump of fresh snow before we arrived. Brundage was in fine form [best skiing all year] and we had a blast sledding out in front of our cabin too.
Saturday night we made the trek out to Gold Fork Hot Springs [open until 11pm on Sat] and soaked our sore muscles away. We jumped out of the hot pools to lay in the cold snow, threw snowballs at each other that instantly dissolved in the water, and laid back to watch for shooting stars. There are four main pools, each hotter than the one before. The hottest was only tolerable for a few minutes at a time. There's a yurt changing area and decent bathrooms. I'm curious what it looks like during the daylight, but it was pretty magical at night with tiki torches and twinkle lights.

Trip Details:
Ponderosa State Park Deluxe Cabins [click on Unique Overnight Stays] -- there are four smaller cabins that sleep 6 and one larger cabin [Elk] that sleeps 8. We stayed in Elk before and it's really lovely. Fox and Black Bear are also fantastic as you can see from my photos. The loft is best for short people -- the kids loved it! Linens are provided, but if you like LOTS of warm blankets in the winter, bring some more from home! Fully stocked kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher. And the view out onto the lake is sweet!
Ponderosa State Park is gorgeous all year round. I can't recommend it highly enough. And the surrounding area as well as the town of McCall has a lot to offer. We're big fans!
